I spent the afternoon this past Saturday , March 23rd for those wondering, exploring some of the various vineyards within easy drive of Charlotte.  My second stop was the Stony Mountain Vineyard.  I met with Ken and Marie Furr, the owners of Stony Mountain Vineyard and spent a considerable amount of time on the property.  I was finally able to pull myself away from the tasting bar to tour the facilities.  I was exceedingly impressed by the operation and  with Kens extensive knowledge of both viniculture and vinification (grape growing and wine making).

This beautiful location is a must stop for any Carolinian who loves wine.  I encourage you to try all the wines, and be sure to pay special attention to the Cabernet Sauvignon.

The Historic Cask Room, pictured left is absolutely beautiful.  A perfect room for a wide variety of events from parties to receptions.

After being harvested the grapes spend a part of their lifetime in these stainless steel tanks before going into the barrels pictured above.

In mid march, there is not much to see of the vines.  Having been pruned back and not taken new budding, you can scarcely see the trunks emerging from the rocky hillside.

We finally decided on a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon on the balcony.
