Miss Todd's Bio

Michele Todd is a 34 years old native of Easley, South Carolina who has resided in the general area of Charlotte, North Carolina for the past 16 years.  Miss Todd attended Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina.  In 1995 she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Literature with a double minor in social studies and secondary Education.  In 1999, she  received her Masters of Education degree in Educational Media.  In 2002, she received National Board Certification in Library Media.  Miss Todd is currently investigating an add on certification as a school administrator.  For the past nine years she has been employed as a middle school Media and Technology Coordinator, utilizing her knowledge and love of literature to help shape the lives of the children she loves.

"I have always had an extreme passion for books and even dreamed of being a writer when I was younger.  I remember being nine years old and carrying this raggedy three ring brown binder around everywhere.  I told everyone that it was my novel that I was writing and that I was going to be famous one day.  I would sit in the cafeteria and write my little stories; desperately writing what I thought would become the Great American Novel. "

"When I first began college and decided to major in English, I told my parents that I wanted to get an English degree and become a famous writer.  In my job, I even argue that I am far more passionate for the books than I am for the technology aspect of my work.   I still write poetry on occasion, though the demands of my job do not seem to allow me the time that I had to write when I was younger.  My ultimate dream is to own my own bookstore….where we burn incense, have good coffee, listen to good music, and have open mike poetry readings every week."

"I read many different authors, but I find myself gravitating towards female authors for some reason.  I always like to read books about strong, intellectual, women who overcome trials and tribulations in order to become triumphant.  Some of my favorite authors are:  Gail Godwin, Jodi Piccoult, Adriana Trigiani, Billie Letts,  and Kristen Hannah.  The Gilded Chamber by Rebecca Kohn and The Red Tent by Anita Diamant are two of the more intriguing feminist based books that I have read lately.  Both of them are very religious in nature, but are told primarily from a female perspective.  I am working on branching out of my comfort zone and plan to begin reading books that I would not ordinarily pick up.  Recently a friend recommended that I read  The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini.  I have to say that it was a fascinating read and a very real look into the Middle Eastern culture. I feel that as readers, it is important to go out of our comfort zones from time to time, and read books that we wouldn’t normally pick up at first glance.  You would be fascinated at the things that you learn and of the worlds to which you become exposed."

"Following a recommendation from my cousin I am now reading:  Why Girls Are Weird by Pamela Ribon.  I am also reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling."

"I am very excited about writing reviews for The Drive By Critic.  Look for my reviews soon on Why Girls are Weird and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows."
