John Moeslein was born in Baltimore, MD, and has lived in Charlotte, North Carolina since he was 19.  He has had an interest in art since early childhood.  As a lover of drawing, sketching and painting he has pursued his talent throughout his life.  His hard work has rewarded him time and time again.  He has won over thirty awards for his art.

He attributes his talent to his father, Francis Raymond Moeslein, who graduated from The Maryland Institute of Art.  John’s avocation and interests have grown continuously as is evidenced by his perseverance and continual study with renowned artists of the region.  He attended The Maryland Institute of Art and Central Piedmont Community College.  He has attended workshops given by Mel Kester and has studied with Al Fincher, Harris Holt, Stan Floate, Shirley Landgraf and extensively with Blain Hall his mentor.

Friends and fellow artists often refer to John as “The Church Artist” due to his many paintings of quaint rural sanctuaries.  Old buildings have proven to be his favorite subject.  Watercolor is his preferred medium, but he has worked in oil paints, acrylics and pencil and has published a number of Limited Edition prints of his work.

His work is represented in private and corporate collections from Massachusetts to Texas, Canada and The United Kingdom.  Some of John’s paintings have been used by a National Company to raise funds for The Special Olympics.

John says, “I like to paint subjects that evoke life’s experiences such as an old house that has sheltered a family, or a church that has anchored a community.  I want the viewer to mix emotion with nostalgia.”
