Spanish wines are becoming a stronger force in the US wine
market each year. From Salvador Poveda winery, we have Toscar
Monastrell
Alicante.
Alicante is a beautiful town on Spain's Costa Blanca. Nestled between
mountains and white sand beaches, Alicante has become a tourist site on
Spain's Coast. With Mediterranean style cuisine and a large selection of
vineyards, Alicante is a sure stop on the travel plan for those who enjoy
fine dining.
Alexander Dumas made reference to Alicante in his novel "The Count of
Monte Cristo". When the Count was visited by the marquis Bartolomeo
Cavalcanti he is offered a choice of drinks by the count. Cavalcanti
chooses an Alicante as it is his favorite wine. This wine is an intense
cherry red, ripe and meaty with mineral undertones. Sweet and tasty tannin
with balsamic finish.
The average price point on this wine is $10.00 per bottle. Its alcohol
content is 13.5% Always to be served at room temperature and never
chilled. It companions well with cut chorizo sausage.
