For over 20 years Rowena has delighted science fiction fans with her
fantastic works. During that time her paintings have appeared on
everything from calendars to trading cards and of course the covers of
sci-fi novels. I had the distinct pleasure of meeting her at the
2006 Heroes Con in Charlotte NC. I found her to be as lovely in
person as her art is on canvas. Oh that I could afford one of her
original works. Rowena currently lives in upstate New York where she
finds inspiration from the beautiful countryside
In her work depicted here, The Gate, the two lovers are so caught up in
the moment that they can not find a way around the simple barrier between
them, even though a key is apparent in the lock. The play of warm
and cold colors, deep shadows and fantastic terrain make this work highly
appealing to me. The addition of a scantily clad, anatomically
correct female certainly heightens my appreciation as well. Rowena's
