I do love good chocolate. Especially accompanied by a good Merlot
wine. Tonight I had the opportunity to taste some wonderful
chocolates from Debbie's Delights, a handmade candy and confections shop
in Charlotte, NC. I had planned to sit down beside my Christmas
tree, in the warmth of my gas logs with a good bottle of Merlot and enjoy
these fine treats. As things happened it was much too warm to cut
the logs on and the chocolates were so good that I did not want to alter
their taste with wine.
This was my hands down favorite of the lot. The dark chocolate has the intense flavor of cocoa typical of dark chocolate but still has a delicate sweetness to it. The Raspberry crème filling is absolutely divine. I am not a big chocolate eater and even less so since my youngest son was diagnosed with diabetes and I changed my house to Splenda, but I can honestly say that I could enjoy these every day. This is definitely a stand alone desert, it may pair well with wine, but I would suggest enjoying them as they are.
Creamy chocolate with crunchy almonds, available in white, milk or dark chocolate. I tried the milk chocolate samples. This was also very good. No frills, but lots of thrills. A simple confection that carries a wonderful flavor.
The name almost says it all. This combination of chocolates is packed with almonds to make an incredible confection.
Debbie's Rocky Road This treat is a mixture of smooth chocolate, marshmallow, and crispies, available in milk, white, or dark chocolate. Mine were of the milk chocolate variety. From the first bite until the last this treat is sensational. The diversity of textures and flavors make a great combination. There were a few other items such as the Peanut Butter Cups and the Crazy Crunch that we sampled. We like them all. I can not talk about one chocolate delight after another without sounding trite,so let me just finish by saying that all the candies were fabulous.
