On
a recent trip to my favorite wine and beer retailer,
Total Wine and
More of Matthews I asked wine associate Chip Caldwell to recommend a
wine that he liked hoping to find something new that I had not tried. Well
Chip did not disappoint me, and neither did his suggestion.
Chip gets this boyish enthusiasm and leads me to the Spanish section of
the store. He picks up a bottle of 2004 vintage Mas Donis. A
red wine from Cellar Capcanes, in the Montsant region of Spain. 85 %
Garnacha (Grenache) from 80+ year old vines
combined with 15% Syrah. Aged in American
and French oak barrels for 8 months. This is what we have to say about
this wine.

What Logan Says.... |
| This Eric Solomon wine is one of those wines you
could price at $30.00, but you can buy for a mere $15.00.
Dark fruit, a fabulous, fabulous 42 second finish that goes on
and on like a roller coaster. Flavors that fill and stay and
break upon your palate like waves upon the beach. |
This is a jewel of a wine as its quality far surpasses
its price making it an excellent value. This wine has a lovely
blueberry nose with a touch of spice. On the palate it is medium
bodied with strong fruit, blackberry with hints of pepper. A near
perfect balance and a nice smooth finish . I rate it an 84. |
| This goes very well with a mild summer
sausage and Jarlsberg Swiss and I suspect would compliment a good dark
chocolate as well. |
